Statistics

I bet most of you think that iron has no melting point or boiling point, you are wrong. Iron does have both a melting and boiling point. The melting point of iron is 1530 degrees Celsius, or 2786 degrees Fahrenheit. And the boiling point of iron is 2750 degrees Celsius, or 4982 degrees Fharenheit. external image Activated_Carbon.jpg

Iron's density is 7.86 g/cm cubed and the abundance of iron on our planet earth is about 5-7%.

Iron has many uses. It's main use is to produce steel for many things such as cars, buildings, ammunition, tanks, light poles, etc. Iron is also used for hemoglobin (which carries oxygen in the blood.)

FUN FACTS:

  • Iron is within almost all living organisms.
  • Iron is the most used of all metals, comprising 95% of all the metal tonnage produced worldwide.
  • The source of iron that was used by prehistoric men were meteorites.
